Employee Awarded $150,000 for serving on jury

A former security guard was awarded $150,000 by a Florida jury for who was fired for serving on a jury, the Miami Herald reports.  According to the complaint, the plaintiff’s employer, Miami security firm Hall Investigation Service, refused to pay the employee for days missed during jury service.  Subsequently, the employer fired the employee in spite of proof that the employee served on jury duty during the three days she missed work.  The jury award included $30,000 for lost wages and emotional distress, and $120,000 in punitive damages.
